To lose weight and keep it off you need to be in control of your eating, and that's based not just on a healthy underlying physiology but also how you consciously and unconsciously think, feel and act around food.

This part of the programme develops the psychological skills needed to respond effectively to unhealthy and addictive impulses to eat, so that you regain mental balance rather than become embroiled in inner conflict.

Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP is a set of pragmatic principles and techniques designed to help people make changes. NLP recognises that much of our experience is made up of relatively habitual and predictable patterns. Our responses are conditioned by our sensory associations (e.g. you crave popcorn whenever you go the cinema) and by our inner use of language. Examples of inner language patterns that are usually (but not always) unhelpful are:

  • self-criticism or even self-abuse following eating decisions
  • using the language of prohibition: 'I can't eat ...', 'I'm not allowed ...', 'I have to give up ...' etc.
