"Leave your potions in the chemist's crucible if you can heal your patient with food" - Hippocrates

Nutritional therapy is based on the premise that if you fully meet your body's health needs, then it will naturally regulate itself both in terms of appetite and weight. That means:

  • Providing the full range of health giving nutrients. Most people in our society have nutrient deficiencies.
  • Avoiding or limiting foods that damage health.
  • Resolving underlying health problems such as hormone or neurotransmitter imbalances.
  • NO NEED for calorie counting or going hungry.

Nutritional therapy helps, not just by offering a scientific basis for  food choices, but also because nutrients are medicines too. Nutrient supplements have been shown to support weight-loss in double-blind controlled trials.

client testimonial

"For some time I had problems with mental focus and energy, especially at work. We did some testing to identify possible causes, and decided to try using biofeedback and nutrition. Amino acid supplements helped me, but I also learned how to improve my health on my own through diet.

"Every day now, I feel much healthier and enjoy life at a higher level. I’ve lost weight, and gained control over my energy levels. More importantly, I believe I can keep doing it in a sustainable way."

- Jean Claude

Optimise Your Metabolism

The traditional formula for weight loss is:

weight loss = calories in - calories burned off

therefore reduce calories in by eating less and increase calories burned off by exercising more.

But what this misses sight of is the fact that your metabolic rate (the rate you burn calories) is not fixed but highly changeable. It's controlled by many factors, including:

  • the food you eat: some foods instruct your cells to turn up the metabolism while others turn it down
  • hormone status: hormones are signalling molecules, and often underlying health problems mean the control system isn't responsive. The thyroid gland is the major controller of metabolic rate.

Dieting (reducing calories) has been shown not to work in the long term because it can actually lower metabolic rate. Instead my strategy is to optimise metabolic rate so that you can effortlessly burn off calories. There are several tactics for achieving this optimisation. The approach needs to be tailored to the individual - the first step is to find out which particular nutritional and hormonal blocks you need to overcome.
